Platelet-Rich Plasma or PRP therapy is a go-to remedialoption at Outbloom Skin & Hair Clinic for both male and female patients suffering hair loss and requiring stimulation of hair follicles. While we do not advocate exclusive application of PRP for treatment of hair loss, recent medical research supports its efficacy as an add-on autologous medical procedurein hair regeneration.

So, what exactly is PRP?

Simply put, platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is believed to promote healing when injected into the affected area. It is produced by isolating the platelets in your blood through a separation process of centrifugation and concentrating all the protein present in the plasma. It is understood that injecting this isolated, concentrated platelets into the damaged hair cells will stimulate them to regenerate faster.

PRP is thought to contain many factors that stimulate the hair’s follicular growth. PRP therapy can be used alongside other hair transplant surgical interventions to augment hair regeneration on the scalp. Its primary purpose is to stimulate inactive or newly implanted hair follicles into an active growth phase. It can be performed every 3–4 months.

PRP procedure at Outbloom

It is as simple as giving your blood for a routine test! Once our technicians have the required quantity it is spun in a sterile centrifuge and the platelets in the plasma are concentrated to 3 times the normal blood values by separating them. We use PRP System to remove granulocytes which hamper tissue regeneration. The entire process does not take more than 25-30 minutes.
The next step is prepping the patient with a local anaesthesia shot to prevent any pain before injecting his or her scalp with the highly concentrated PRP. That’s all! One hair wash and you can even drive yourself home, without any assistance! We do not give any sedating medication and usually perform it on the same day as FUE hair restoration surgery.

What should I expect from PRP?

While results vary with every patient and there is no guaranteed strike rate, studies have shown that patients do respond to PRP therapy. This is our experience too at Outbloom Skin & Hair Clinic. While certain non-surgical patients may be given PRP applications every 3 to 4 months, some are given PRP therapy before or during surgery to enhance the survival of the implanted grafts. It is quite clear, however, that PRP has the potential to stimulate natural hair follicular growth.

Is it safe for me?

Yes, it is completely safe! We have been using PRP therapy successfully on many of our patients over the years at Outbloom Skin & Hair Clinic. Ultimately, however, the decision to use this therapy is a personal one and we encourage all our patients to make it an informed one after they have satisfied themselves with their own due diligence. We have found it to be a natural and safe procedure because it concentrates the good cells from your scalp and injects them directly back into the area where they are required.

No chance of a blood infection.
PRP uses the best of your own blood and does not damage your immunity.

It is not a cure for hair loss, however, and patients going in for it should keep that in mind. Patients with a history of heavy smoking, alcohol and substance use do not benefit from this procedure as do those with certain medical conditions.

Make an informed decision to use this therapy concurrently with other surgical interventions at Outbloom Hair & Skin Clinic.
